1,000 FREE ENERGY-SAVING KITS COMING TO SPOKANE FAMILIES
SPOKANE, WASH. – As temperatures drop and energy bills rise, SNAP is stepping in to help Spokane families stay warm and save money. Together with McKinstry and Avista Utilities, SNAP is distributing 1,000 free energy-saving kits on Thursday, October 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations across Spokane.

WHAT’S IN THE ENERGY KIT?
- 💡 LED light bulbs
- 🪟 Window insulation plastic
- 🚪 Weather stripping
- 🛑 Draft stoppers
These small changes add up—helping households cut utility costs as winter sets in.
BUILDING COMMUNITY, ONE KIT AT A TIME
On Wednesday, October 22, the McKinstry team will come together at the Catalyst Building to assemble all 1,000 kits with materials provided by Avista.
“Leading the SNAP Energy Savings Kit Build at McKinstry for the past five years has been such a highlight for me,” shared Sara Hofstee, Office Operations Manager – PNW. “It’s my favorite community project—not just because we’re helping families save energy and money, but because it brings people together in such a fun and meaningful way.”

WHY IT MATTERS
For many households, heating bills can strain tight budgets. By providing free tools to cut energy waste, SNAP and partners are helping families save money, increase comfort, and prepare for winter.
This initiative also demonstrates the power of community collaboration—when nonprofits, local businesses, and utilities join forces, Spokane families win.
