When the temperatures drop in Spokane, the cold hits hardest for those without a safe place to stay. At SNAP’s Pacific Avenue office, neighbors experiencing homelessness arrive every day looking for warmth, stability, and someone who won’t turn them away. For many, the first face they see is Mel.

A Gift Arrives at Exactly the Right Time
Amazon surprised SNAP with hundreds of new winter coats and a $20,000 donation to support homeless services. The timing couldn’t have been better. Winter was approaching, and more people were coming through the doors each day.
As the coats were distributed from the front desk, Mel witnessed moments she will never forget.
“One man told me he had never had a new coat before.”
For someone experiencing homelessness, a warm coat can be life changing. For some, it’s the first brand-new item they’ve owned in years. Mel said the gratitude has been overwhelming, and deeply moving. Moments like these remind us why this work matters.
