SNAP is seeking volunteers for the Eastern Washington Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program. Why Your Voice Matters
By 2050, America’s population of older adults (65+) is expected to reach 82 million. Nearly 70% of those who turn 65 will need some form of long-term care. The Eastern Washington Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program—administered locally by SNAP—ensures that residents in nursing homes, assisted living, and adult family homes are treated with dignity and respect. Our trained volunteers are the lifeline for residents, listening to their concerns, investigating complaints, and speaking up when no one else can. Right now, only 19 volunteers serve our entire region—less than half of pre-COVID levels. That leaves nearly 40% of nursing homes in Eastern Washington without a regular ombudsman presence. For some residents, our volunteers are the only visitors they see. This fall, we need more community members to step up.
